The National South African Police Services (SAPS) Commissioner Bheki Cele has thrown his full weight in support of police who are making serious inroads in apprehending culprits implicated in a string of violent crimes in the country. Criminals can’t be winning the minds and hearts of South Africans if we are indeed serious about fighting crime and creating safer communities.
Cele has called on the supporters of the ‘King of Bling’ to join forces with government in creating an environment where young girls can walk alone at night without fear of crime, where families will enjoy peaceful sleep without fear of house robberies, where businesses and vehicles carrying cash can function without fear of violent crime.
“Criminals don’t come with rain showers or snow, they are from families, they are somebody’s son, daughter, uncle and aunt – communities must expose them. Government has made a commitment to tighten the whole justice system in the fight against crime, it can’t be police alone. Justice will prevail in the guilt or innocence of the King of Bling. However, communities must stop complaining about crime and join forces against crime," said Cele.
“Kingpins can no longer be comfortable in cocoons and nests of dirty criminal acts, gangster paradise should be the thing of the past. There in no hatred, police are equal to the task," Cele concluded.
