International Nurses Day celebration

The provincial MEC of Health, Mr MS Sokatsha, cordially invites you to the Northern Cape Provincial celebration event of International Nurses Day.

International Nurses Day is yearly celebrated on 12 May 2009 which is the birthday of the pioneer of the modern nursing Florence Nightingale. This day has been put aside every year to express our sincere gratitude to those individuals who form the backbone of our health system. The theme of International Nurses Day for 2009 is: “delivering quality, serving communities: Nurses leading care innovation.”

The International Council of Nurses (ICN) has celebrated this day since 1965. In January 1974, the decision was made to celebrate the day on 12 May 2009 as it is the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale (12 May 1820), who is widely considered the founder of modern nursing.
