The Telecommunications Amendment Act 64 of 2001 intends:
- to amend the Telecommunications Act, 1996 (Act No. 103 of 1996), so as:
- to insert new definitions and substitute other definitions;
- to make provision for radio frequency access in the 1800 MHz frequency band;
- to make provision for new kinds of licences;
- to make further provision for applications for licences and the consideration thereof;
- to provide anew for the taking of decisions on applications for licences;
- to provide for public switched telecommunication services and public switched telecommunication networks;
- to further regulate mobile cellular telecommunication services;
- to provide for the commencement or duration of certain licences;
- to further regulate private telecommunication networks;
- to make further provision for the interconnection of telecommunication systems;
- to further provide for the availability of telecommunication facilities;
- to provide for emergency centres;
- to make further provision for certain functions of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa; and
- to make provision for the establishment of a telecommunications museum;
- to provide for the repeal of a particular law and the amendment of another; and
- to provide for matters connected therewith.
