The Refugees Amendment Act 12 of 2011 aims:

  • to amend the Refugees Act, 1998, so as:
    • to amend, insert and delete certain definitions;
    • to clarify how applications for refugee status rejected as manifestly unfounded and unfounded must be dealt with;
    • to empower the Director-General to establish the Status Determination Committee;
    • to revise the provisions relating to withdrawal of refugee status; and
  • to provide for matters connected therewith.

Commencement

After the commencement of the Refugees Amendment Act 33 of 2008 - 1 January 2020
