37 of 2000

The National Health Laboratory Service Act 37 of 2000 intends:

  • to provide for the establishment of a juristic person to be known as the National Health Laboratory Service;
  • to provide for the abolition of the South African Institute for Medical Research, the National Institute for Virology, the National Centre for Occupational Health, certain forensic chemistry laboratories and all provincial health laboratory services;
  • to provide for matters connected therewith.  

Commencement

  • 10 May 2001, except ss. 15, 16, 17, 20, 21 and 24 and items 2, 5, 6 and 7 of the Schedule (Gazette 22287 of 10 May 2001)
  • 1 October 2001, in KwaZulu-Natal of ss. 1-14, 18-19, 22-23 and 25-29 and items 1, 3 and 4 of the Schedule (Gazette 22703 of 28 September 2001)
  • 1 October 2001, in the whole Republic ss. 15-17, 20-21 and 24 and items 2 and 5-7 of the Schedule (Gazette 22703 of 28 September 2001)
  • 1 July 2002, National Centre for Occupational Health (Gazette 23562 of 27 June 2002)
