The Gas Act 48 of 2001 intends:
- to promote the orderly development of the piped gas industry;
- to establish a national regulatory framework;
- to establish a National Gas Regulator as the custodian and enforcer of the national regulatory framework; and
- to provide for matters connected therewith.
