The Department of Women takes this opportunity to allay concerns on media reports about deliberations in the Portfolio Committee on Women in the Presidency on the 1st of July on the Women Empowerment and Gender Equality Bill’s (WEGE) muted “withdrawal”.
Minister in the Presidency responsible for women Susan Shabangu led the department in briefing the portfolio committee on the ministry’s Annual Performance Plan 2014/15 and its budget.
The Minister informed the committee that WEGE Bill will have to be reviewed as the National Council of Provinces had adopted the Bill with amendments.
The review process would allow the Department of Women to further consult with stakeholders.
