Current Positions

Mr Gugile Ernest Nkwinti is the Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform of the Republic of South Africa. A position he was first appointed to in 2009, and to which he was re-appointed on 26 May 2014.

Academic Qualifications

Mr Nkwinti holds a Masters degree in Public Policy and Management from the University of London, and a BA degree specialising in Political Science, Public Administration and Applied Economics from the University of South Africa.

Career/Positions/Memberships/Other Activities

Mr Nkwinti was the Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform since 11 May 2009. Prior to his appointment as a Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, he was speaker of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature from 1994 to 1999; Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Housing, Local Government and Traditional Affairs at in the Eastern Cape Province from 1999 to 2005, and MEC for Agriculture in the Eastern Cape from 2005 to 2009.
